“Swimfinity Mauritius” “Swim Moris” Community project and Swim Camp 2027

Its happening!!!, after three and a half years of planning we can now offer Mauritius as a location for our 3rd annual swim camp (alongside Lanzarote and Mallorca) inspired by our time in Bali teaching local disadvantaged children to swim. We plan to travel with a small group of like minded people to let them experience swimming in the Indian ocean (and local pools) to improve their swimming and experience the amazing island of Mauritius.
We are starting a movement called “SWIM MORIS” Moris means Mauritius in the local Creole language) Our aim is to inspire and empower local people, more on this later. We’re hoping this will be an exciting, unique adventure to the stunning pearl of the Indian Ocean!
We will be working in partnership with Sparc ( https://sparc.mu/ ) RLSS Mauritius and Pearle Beach Hotel.
Included in the camp will be time spent with local people who have limited access to swim lessons and would benefit from some intense support. Our swimmers will buddy up with local volunteers, who in turn will teach / coach swimmers needing our help, giving them the fundamentals required to swim confidently and efficiently. You will be an essential cog in the process, but don’t worry if you lack the knowledge of swim teaching or coaching , you will be guided through the process by us!
What is the point of the SWIM MORIS initiative? In the heart of the Indian ocean, Mauritius has more than 300km of coastline, rivers, lakes and pools. Water is everywhere but only 2.9% of children aged 8-9 years can safely swim 25m (National testing data) Fatal drownings in Mauritius are 5x higher then the average of developed countries, highlighting that drowning is a major public health concern. There are epidemic levels of obesity, type 2 diabetes and sedentary lifestyle with very little culture of sports and recreational activities. There is No PE lesson in government schools! Swimming could be an accessible and affordable way of life for Mauritians to move their bodies if only they can be inspired to make a start. This will be a camp with a difference, its time to spread the legacy that is Swimfinity across the world and make an impact where it is needed to potentially save lives and increase awareness on safe open water swimming.
ABILITY = Any swim ability is welcome, any stroke, even new to Open water – What a place to learn! in 25degree water!
